Rumor has it that the latest face of the Iowa men's basketball team, Jake Kelly, may transfer next season. I have a few friends that have class with Kelly. Apparently, he was speaking to a friend about it while walking out of the classroom.
Last night I brought the rumor to the attention of a friend, and he said he had heard the same thing.
Let's hope Jake stays because that would cause the basketball team to implode and never recover.
Has anyone else heard this? If Kelly transfers, do you think Matt Gatens would think about it?

I don't want to say this isn't credible, but I have some trouble believing it. Maybe it's because I just don't want to. If Kelly transferred it would be absolutely crushing to the Iowa basketball program. It would be a kick in the midsection of Coach Lick.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it would affect Matt Gatens one bit. He's a Hawkeye, plain and simple. Iowa City is home.
I really hope that isn't true. It wouldn't change anything about Gatens mindset- he has been a Hawkeye since he was born. Kelly leaving would be a huge loss. However, maybe he wasn't talking about himself- maybe he was talking about someone else and your friend just thought he was talking about himself. I could see a few different players transferring- especially Anthony Tucker with his off the court problems. I have talked to Kelly a few times and he knows how talented the Hawkeyes are, they are just young. If he did say that, maybe it is out of frustration to all the games they have lost in the last few minutes.
